 Borderlands 2 Collector's Edition Pre-Orders Open

borderlands-2-collectors-edition-pre-orders-open.jpg

Gearbox Software gave fans at PAX East 2012 an early look at one of the Borderlands 2 Collector's Edition options that would be available this fall, but a morning press release now reveals the full extent of what's being offered. There are actually two Collector's Edition packages to choose from: the Deluxe Vault Hunter's Collector's Edition for $99.99 and the Ultimate Loot Chest Limited Edition for $149.99. Pre-orders for both are open as of today, May 17.

The cheaper option includes a copy of Borderlands 2, Marcus Kincaid bobblehead, a hardbound art book, a set of collectible stickers, a map of Pandora, a download code for a digital comic, and "bonus downloadable in-game digital content." The more expensive option includes everything mentioned already, along with a steelbook case for the game, a Creature of Pandora ID chart, a postcard set, field notes from Sir Hammerlock, a cloth map of Pandora, and a certificate of authenticity. The bigger pack also comes housed in the loot box replica that Gearbox showed off at PAX East.

But wait! There's more! Those who pre-order the game in any form, collector's edition or otherwise, will receive some free stuff putting money down with participating retailers. All of this free content is wrapped up in something called the Borderlands 2 Premiere Club; pre-order the game from one of the unnamed participating retailers, and you get the freebies.

This content includes the Gearbox Gun Pack, a Golden Key, the Vault Hunter's Relic, and a fifth character class, the Mechromancer. The Gun Pack is pretty self-explanatory, offering starting players a few unique guns to give them an early boost. The Golden Key is a digital item used to unlock "a rare in-game item in the mysterious Golden Sanctuary Loot Chest," and the Vault Hunter's Relic is an in-game item that "boosts players' gear-hunting fortune."

The Mechromancer class, also revealed at PAX East, is free with a pre-order placed with a participating retailer, but it isn't exclusive to that offer. Those who don't pre-order Borderlands 2 will still be able to spend some dollars to buy the fifth class as DLC. Borderlands 2 hits stores in North America on September 18; put in your pre-order now on the game's official website.

Battlefield Premium Service To Allow Unlock Of All DLC With One Time Fee?

battlefield-3-oct-2

The rumored Battlefield Premium service that is Electronic Art’s answer to Actvision’s stat-tracking platform Call of Duty Elite, will apparently allow gamers to unlock all previous and future downloadable content for Battlefield 3, all for a once off fee.

According to Battlefieldo, Battlefield Premium is no rumor and is definitely set to launch on June 4th, 2012, along with double XP for PC players. The service will also be accompanied with the ability to unlock the ‘Back to Karkand’ DLC pack, also a range of new weapon camos, dog tags and solider camos, among other unlockables.

According to a rumored official description of the premium service that was leaked earlier this week:

Battlefield Premium will land you a number of content drops with unique in-game items not available anywhere else. First out is the one-of-a-kind Premium knife and black dog tag, plus a set of soldier camos, weapon camos, dog tags and Assignments that will make sure you stand out and get more personalization options.

That will be plenty of goodies to go along with the massive amount of DLC EA plans to roll out over the course of the year. The first DLC, Back to Karkand landed last December, with Close Quarters to be released this June, Armored Kill in the Autumn, End Game in the winter and a supposed fifth DLC pack to be released in March 2013, EA showing they are in it for the long haul.

On how much the service will cost the gamer, it’s still not known, but one could guess it will compete with the price tag of Call of Duty: Elite. Many feel betrayed by EA however, gamers angered by the publisher breaking its promise of always having DLC map packs at no charge. War is War and when you’re fighting a heavyweight like Call of Duty, you’re always fighting with a hand behind your back.

Black OPS 2

Black Ops2 preview posted online.

Call of Duty Black Ops 2 MP1st-600x368

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 Preview Posted Online was a top story. Here is the recap: Activision are giving fans a little taste of the forthcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 with the release of the new trailer for the game, which will be released on November 13, 2012. They sent out these details:

Set in the year 2025,Call of Duty: Black Ops II propels players into global conflict featuring advanced weaponry, robotics, and drone warfare in a new Cold War scenario whose seeds are being sown in today's headlines. New graphics technology drives the stunning cinematic action of the single-player campaign's branching storylines and non-linear missions.

"Hands down, this is the most ambitious Call of Duty ever," said Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision Publishing. "We are bringing disruptive innovation to the franchise and we are doing it on several fronts. We're pushing the boundaries technologically, graphically, and from a narrative and gameplay perspective. At the same time, we need to stay true to the epic realism, authenticity, heart pumping adrenaline, and cinematic action that so many people love and expect from a Call of Duty game. Treyarch's vision for Call of Duty: Black Ops II will redefine the Call of Duty franchise for the future--both literally and figuratively."

"With Call of Duty: Black Ops II, the team is crafting an experience that Call of Duty fans have never seen before," said Mark Lamia, Studio Head for Treyarch. "We are challenging assumptions on every front, with the single player campaign, Zombies and multiplayer. In the campaign, we are creating a thought-provoking story that introduces branching storylines and meaningful choices that impact the narrative. Running in the multiplayer engine for the first time, Zombies gives players a bigger and more diverse set of gameplay experiences, as well as entirely new ways to wage war with the undead. And in multiplayer, we're embracing all skill levels and play styles to give players more ways to engage. With Call of Duty: Black Ops II, we're all in and we won't rest until we've launched nothing less than the best Call of Duty we've ever made."

Call of Duty Coming to PS Vita!

call-of-duty-vita

Call of Duty is officially coming to the PS Vita, and it’s a BIG DEAL.

In a recent (really long) video with Gametrailers, Sony’s Senior VP of Brand Marketing, Guy Longworth, announced the upcoming game.  Longworth mentioned that he thought the game would be a real game-changer for the Vita and for Call of Duty, but wouldn’t expand on any specifics as to what exactly the game would be.

He did mention that the PS Vita version of Call of Duty would be releasing this fall so we’re guessing it is simply going to be a Vita version of Black Ops 2, though it remains possible that it will be a spin-off like the Vita has done with some other franchises such as Uncharted.  Either way, it’s good that Sony wised up and put dual analogs on the PS Vita so that a tight FPS game like this can actually work on the handheld.

In addition to likely making Activision another large bucket of money, this announcement is really big news for the Vita.  The Vita is struggling in Japan but the attachment of a big budget mainstream FPS franchise should give it a huge kickstart in the US/Europe and will likely play a large role in the handheld’s future success.

So, is this enough to make you buy a Vita?

Kinda Tricky......

Microsoft Announces $99 Xbox 360

cheap-xbox

Microsoft has made its $99 Xbox official. The 360 with Kinect and a 4GB HD is available in Microsoft stores, and is only sold with a 2-year commitment to Xbox Live at $14.99 a month. Check it out on the official Microsoft site. Print the coupon and stop by a Microsoft store for the cheapest ever Xbox.

My question: is this kind of subsidized console going to catch on? We did the math, and the ultimate savings over traditional Xbox ownership is about $39 over two years, but the $15-a-month version of Gold might have some extra content.

So what do you think? Is this a good idea or not? Anyone planning on picking one up?

If you cancel do they console ban you????
